DIY: Canvas with pictures

This project turned out beautifully, but was a little more time consuming than I had originally planned on so definitely give yourself some time to complete it.  All in all the project cost me right around $25. The majority of the project was items I had to purchase. I only had a few things around the house.

Step 1:  Here's what you'll need.
    Scissors
    Masking tape
    Cutting board
3 Canvas'  (Michael's 3 for the price of one deal $9.99 total)
Sample paint roller (Lowe's $2.99-came with two roller sponges and the tray)
    Acrylic paint
    Exacto Knife
    Cardstock paper
    Picture hanging wire and hooks
Velcro w/sticky backing (I used industrial strength)
Plastic picture frames (Walmart for $0.95/ea. They were clear plastic and flat with magnets on the         back.)
    Developed photos

Step 2:  Paint canvas desired color.  I left a few streaky strokes to break it up a bit and give it a slightly textured look.

Step 3: Print desired words (I used the song lyrics to the song we danced to at our wedding) on card stock.  My printer wouldn't work so I had UPS print off and size the words-I used 11x17 paper since my canvas were close to that size.  Then I cut out the words with an exacto knife. This part was very tedious and time consuming, but using a thicker font definitely helped.

Step 4:  After cutting out the word place on canvas.  I chose to have my words run off the edges and read consecutively for each canvas instead of having them read across all three together. Using the roller I put drops of paint in the tray and then rolled into it so the paint would be applied to the canvas unevenly and continue with the weathered/textured look.

Step 5: After they've completely dried you can flip them over and start to put the picture wire on.  You can use any sort of method to hang, but I wanted something that I could secure to the wall without it falling off very easily.

Step 6: Put pictures in frames and add small squares of velcro to the back.  I used industrial strength velcro.  I only put one square in the middle because I wanted to be able to switch the orientation of the frame when I switch out the photos. Attach the pictures to the canvas wherever you'd like them to sit.

Step 7:  Hang and enjoy.  I made sure they were level on the wall and secured when I hung them.

ENJOY!
